What Is Pumkin's Promise?

Pumkin’s Promise is a non-profit organization dedicated to funding the medical treatment of rescued dogs. Since June of 2006, Pumkin’s Promise has financed spaying and neutering, vaccinations and heartworm testing, and has provided financial support for life-saving treatments in animals for diseases such as parvovirus. Our purpose is our slogan:
"Save, Heal, Love"
Pumkin the dog, smiling
Pumkin of Pumkin's Promise fame, alert

Pawsitive Match is a rescue and adoption organization that operates in the Calgary area, in Alberta, Canada. We rescue many dogs from the Cabo San Lucas Humane Society, in Mexico, and many other dogs from different parts of North America. We are 100% non-profit, and we rely on the hard work of our dedicated volunteers. Our mission is to end the needless suffering of homeless dogs and help find them loving family to be a part of.

About The Organization
The foundation for Pumkin’s Promise started on June 17th, 2006.  On this day, a little Yorkshire Terrier Mix named Pumkin was humanely euthanized after a long battle with various health ailments, including advanced heartworm, which had been left untreated for so long due to extreme neglect prior to her being rescued.  Although Pumkin lost her battle, her resilience made an impression on all who knew her during her short life, and a promise was made by those touched by her to improve the lives of animals that have encountered neglect and abuse as Pumkin had.

Pumkin
Pumkin was a little Yorkshire Terrier Mix found tied to a tire in Louisiana in the spring of 2006.  Although this little girl had survived Hurricane Katrina, she had been extremely neglected and was in constant pain.  Pumkin also suffered from heartworm, a disease that threatens many pets but that is completely preventable with proper medication.  Unfortunately, Pumkin had not been protected by her previous owners and had not received any medical attention after being infected.  As a result, the heartworm was extremely advanced and the worms had infested many of her tiny organs.  Furthermore, her liver was dysfunctional and producing large amounts of bile, and a pin in her leg (which assumingly was intended to fix a previous injury) was far too large and was protruding, poking her muscles during any movement.

Upon her arrival in Calgary, tests revealed the heartworm was too advanced and that, in conjunction with her other ailments, made her chance of surviving the dangerous treatment unlikely.

Therefore, Pumkin was humanely euthanized and sent to Rainbow Bridge on June 17th, 2006.

Our Mission
Pumkin’s Promise is a non-profit organization dedicated to funding the medical treatment of rescued animals.  We believe that all animals should experience life as it is meant to be--free of pain, neglect, and fear.  This is where our slogan, "Save, Heal, Love", comes in.

As we are heavily associated with animal rescue, before any medical treatment can be administered to an animal, he or she must be removed from the dangerous situation, whether it's a neglectful home, the streets, or a shelter.  After that, the healing process can begin, where the animal receives all necessary medical attention, be it a simple neutering or receiving vaccines, or treatment that may be necessary to address more complicated health issues.  Through this process, the animal is given the opportunity to be placed in a loving home as a healthy, happy dog and enjoy the life he or she deserves.

How You Can Help
First of all, the fact that you're reading this deserves a "thank you!"  Pumkin’s Promise is always looking for volunteers to help in any way possible.  We’re always looking for ways to get the word out, be it through posters, brochures, telling people about the organization and animal rescue, and of course by purchasing our wristbands!

Along with that, we are always looking for places to display our information and sell wristbands, whether at pet stores or even stores unrelated to animals (fortunately for us, animal lovers are everywhere!)  And, of course, monetary donations toward the medical care of these animals are always greatly appreciated.

If you would like to help, please contact us today.
